Profile:
dr_BS_singhalDr. B S Singhal is the Hon Chairperson of MSSI-Mumbai. He is a renowned Neurologist at Bombay Hospital. Recipient of the Dr. B C Roy National Award, Dr. BhimsenSinghal has been at the forefront in developing neurology services for patient care, treatment and research. After his training at the Institute of Neurology, London, Dr. Singhal developed the Neurology Departments at the Grant Medical College, Mumbai and Bombay Hospital Institute of Medical Sciences, which till date has produced over 150 highly specialised neurologists. To increase the awareness of neurological disease, Dr. Singhal became a founder member of the Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Order Society and has served as the representative from India and adjoining Asian regions on the Working Group of WHO for Multiple Sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease.

2)Hon. V. Chairperson - Sheela Chitnis

Profile:
The founder, Jt. Hon. Secretary, Hon. Secretary from 1993 and National Coordinator from 1996 to 3rd Oct 2009, SheelaChitnis has represented India as CEO on MSIF Board. She took over full management of MSSI, Mumbai as Hon. Secretary in 1985 and as National Coordinator from May 1994. Since then she has introduced for Mumbai Chapter several projects on Patient Care- Free Home Physiotherapy, Free Annual Medical Camps, MS Walk for Fundraising & Public Awareness, Art Exhibition, Musical Concerts and Awareness at Public Places for MSSI Mumbai Chapter . At the National level she organized and introduced National Medical Seminars and workshops on MS Related Problems, MS Nurse Project.
Representation at International Forum: Since Multiple Sclerosis Society of India (MSSI) is affiliated to Multiple Sclerosis International Federation (MSIF), she as the Indian representative had the opportunity to attend and present papers at the following Multiple Sclerosis International Federation’s International Conferences and also in the Meetings of CEO Advisory Group:
1989 in Delhi Conference organized by MSSI. She also helped in organizing this Conference.
1999 in Stuttgart & Basel (combined) - attended.
2001 in Melbourne, Australia, - Conference & Meeting of CEO Advisory Group.
2001 in London on Advocacy-workshop by UK MS Society.
2003 April, in Munich – CEO Advisory Group.
2003 September, in Berlin – Presentation - “MS Society of India’s Valuable Projects”.

2006 in Manchester, U.K. as a speaker.

Profile:

A Cancer survivor she has started a Cancer Rehabilitation Clinic at Prince Aly Khan Hospital. She is deeply involved in the welfare of Cancer Patients also. A dedicated social worker and a MS family member, it is highly creditable that she manages to be extremely efficient and volunteer for both the causes simultaneously.

Brief History of the Mumbai Chapter:

It was launched in 1985 by Founders Mr. A.H. Tobaccowala and Mrs Rehmut Fazalbhoy for the welfare and support of MS persons. They, along with extremely active members like Mrs Sheela Chitnis, Mr. K.N. Randeria, Mr. A J Joglekar, Mr. P Sharan and others established the society with just 3 MS Persons. Numerous activities and dedicated hard work by all these people helped MSSI Mumbai become a prominent organization in the field of MS.
With the involvement of leading doctors, Hospitals of Mumbai and help from various donors, MSSI Mumbai moved forward rapidly. Today their active and buzzing office shares their premises with MSSI Head Office in their own space in Sion –West which they purchased in the beginning of 2008.
It began with 3 MSP’s and today the society serves a large number of Multiple Sclerosis patients.

Activities of Mumbai Chapter:
MSSI- MUMBAI Chapter conducts very successful MS WALKs every year and they are aimed towards creating awareness and fund-raising for their various activities. As aleading Chapter they also do the following activities throughout the year.

1. Identification of MS patients and initial help.
2. Free Supplementary Medicine.
3. Home Physio/Occupational Therapy.
4. Home Nursing Project.
5. Disability Certificates.
6. Visiting and counseling home bound Multiple Sclerosis Patients.
7. Hospital Visits.
8. Regular telephonic counseling.
9. Financial Aid to needy MS Persons.
10. Fund raising - MS Walks, Read- a -thon, Art Exhibitions, Musical Concerts.
11. Get together for Multiple Sclerosis Patients, families and friends.
12. Donations of medicines, wheelchairs and other aids.
13. Subsidized cost of MRI’s.
14. Public Awareness – At MS Walks, Railway stations, public places, Colleges and Schools.
15. Participation in Mumbai Marathon to create Awareness.
16. Holding Medical Seminars with National and international Delegates
