Symposium with CRC Lucknow, Ministry of SJE | WMSD 2022

On 31 May 2022 Delhi Chapter held a symposium with CRC Lucknow highlighting the various facilities and assistance schemes provided by the Govt. of India. MSSI Delhi introduced Multiple Sclerosis and the Society working for the MS. They presented their work on the support extended, advocacy, and connecting MSPs and stakeholders.

MSSI Chennai Chapter hosted a press meet on 30 May 2022 at the Chennai Press Club. Around 20 Tamil and English channels came for the meet. Dr. Bhuvaneshwari, an eminent neurologist from Kauvery Hospital gave an interview along with Mrs. Ann Gonsalvez, Hon. Secretary, Mr. Ashokan, Hon. Chairperson, and Ms. Smitha, Committee Member from MSSI about MS, risk factors, and the need for creating awareness, disability needs and much more.

Public Awareness Programme with the Faculty & Dept. of Neurosciences All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi

On 30 May 2022, the Delhi Chapter conducted a hybrid programme attended by doctors, interns, social workers and people living with MS. The programme was live-streamed on the AIIMS Telemedicine YouTube page. Prof. MV Padma, Chief of Neurosciences Centre, AIIMS along with a panel of senior consultants from her Dept., Dr. Rohit Bhatia, Prof. Neurology, Prof. Ashima Nehra, Neuro-Psychology, Dr. Rajesh Kumar Singh, Neurology, Dr. A. Elavarasi, Neurology and Dr. Rajeev Agarwal, HOD Physiotherapy Rehab discussed the recent advances in treatment and management of MS. The session provided some great insights to everyone about the disease.

MS person Fashion Show with RAGAMS | WMSD 2022

This year MSSI Bangalore Chapter partnered with The Rotary Club and RAGAMS (The Rotary Action Group Against Multiple Sclerosis) to celebrate the lives of people with MS, their support networks and advocate for better services for them.

This is the first time in the world that 30 Rotary Clubs joined hands together to celebrate World MS Day which was a stepping stone in creating awareness about MS to the vast group. A display of photographs depicting invisible symptoms added more significance to this event. The Bangalore MSSI Chapter chose to break down stereotypes and do a fashion show with 14 people with MS walking the ramp. Every model walked with excellent confidence and a love for life!

Fun Day at the Mall | WMSD 2022

Under their Quality-of-Life initiative, the Delhi Chapter on 29 May 2022 organised a recreational lunch and movie outing at Select City Walk, Saket providing a delightful and unforgettable experience to about 90 PwMS and their families. The day began with games & a quiz, the launch of their free and informative 18th Annual Handbook 2022 for all MSPs in India, followed by a delicious Chinese cuisine for lunch. The movie Anek was screened in an accessible hall with a hydraulic lift; the majority of the space of the movie hall was booked for MS persons. This outing is a message to all that no disability should confine anyone at home.

Cycle Rally | WMSD 2022

Cycle Rally

As a part of World MS Day, the Trivandrum Chapter conducted a Cycle Rally in Kochi on May 29, 2022. Confident Group, Cosmos Sports and Butterfly Cancer Foundation (BCCF) joined MSSI Trivandrum for this rally to spread awareness.

Mr. T A Joseph, MD, Confident Group flagged off the rally from Cosmos Sports World, Kochi. More than 50 riders joined MSSI members for the ride. Riders covered 15 kilometres and finished the ride at BTH Sarovaram, Kochi. Dr. Suresh Kumar, Consultant Neurologist, Renai Medicity then inaugurated the awareness classes to be conducted at the state level. MSSI Trivandrum Secretary, Mr. Ram Kumar explained the importance of MS awareness. Confident Group MD, Mr. T A Joseph announced 2 months of medical aid for 30 MS persons and conveyed his solidarity for MSSI’s movement. Cosmos Sports Cluster Manager, Mr. Charles Vadakkan distributed the participation certificate to the riders.

Dr. Prashanth Raghavan, Ayush Prana, Dr. Mansoor Koyakutty, Founder BSSF, Dr. Sudhakar Muthyala, Secretary BCCF also addressed the audience.

Naam Porali (We are Warriors) | WMSD 2022

MSSI Chennai Chapter observed World MS Day and launched the ‘Naam Porali’ program by Dr. K Venkaraman on 28 May 2022 with around 75 members and caretakers participating. ‘Naam Porali’ (We are Warriors) is a program for multiple sclerosis patients; where they will have access to, non-medical treatments in groups. For instance, fatigue exercises, psychotherapy for the brain etc., and all other methods to deal with MS on a day-to-day basis. We will begin the fatigue management program with six MS persons, starting gradually from Chennai and then moving on to other districts in Tamil Nadu. The launch ended on a humorous note with an entertaining performance by ‘Humour King’, Mr. Sekaran, President, Humour Club of Chennai.

Connecting with Neurologist Dr. Sudhir Kumar and Performance by HaLoH | WMSD 2022

Hyderabad Chapter celebrated the World MS Day 2022 on 27th May with an event at the City Center Mall, Hyderabad. Dr. Sudhir Kumar, Neurologist at Apollo Hospitals was the Chief Guest and spoke about how Prompt Diagnosis and Early Initiation of Treatment is the Key to Prevent Disability due to Multiple Sclerosis. He used simple yet interesting ways to explain which made it easy for everyone to understand.

We recognised three people with MS who have served the society in various ways, three caregivers who have been relentlessly taking care of their bed bound MS family members, and a class X student, daughter of a MS person who has performed exceptionally well academically. We also felicitated Arti Mittal, who has been living with MS since 1998 for receiving an award at the Womennovator Global Summit 2021 for creating awareness about MS on an international platform.

This was followed by some entertaining & foot tapping music by the members of the group the Harmonica Lovers of Hyderabad – HaLoH on the Harmonica. The celebrations ended by joining hands and making the human chain – TOGETHER WE ARE STRONGER.

Patient Outreach Program | WMSD 2022

The Patient Outreach Program was conducted as a part of World MS Day 2022 celebrations. It was organised in collaboration with the National Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (NIPMR) on May 07, 2022.

This program helps our members understand the importance of rehabilitation. NIPMR provided the services of a Physiatrist, Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist, Speech Therapist and Psychologist. The doctors and therapists examined each member and understood the difficulties people with MS were facing. They emphasised rehabilitation as a solution to their problems.
