To commemorate World MS Day 2013, MSSI Begaluru Chapter organised a Walkathon in Cubbon Park. Around 150 people participated in the Walk. With large press coverage, the event was a great success at promoting awareness about MS. Newspaper Articles and TV coverage from local channels SAMAYA NEWS and RAJ NEWS (KANNADA) spread our message across Bengaluru. This event was supported by Biogen Idec and Bosch.
MSSI Chennai Chapter observed “World MS Day” right from May 23 to June 2, 2013. Keeping in mind the theme “MS and Youth” and the need to spread awareness among people, particularly the Youth, they got a young theatre group, who called themselves “Theatre Y” to put a “Veedinadagam” (Street Theatre) in the local language, Tamil. They carried this “Veedinadagam” across Chennai, performing in two parks, in a church compound after Mass, and in two of the City’s largest shopping malls. Being the holiday season, the malls were filled with shoppers of all ages, the parks in the evening were filled with walkers, and children playing cricket to rollers skates, stopped and watched.
In the church compound, large crowds who attended the feast of “Our Mother Mary” gathered outside to watch the Street Theatre. The Street Theatre players enacted and explained all about MS, its symptoms, its diagnosis, its treatment and how like any other disease one can live a quality life with MS. MSSI, Chennai Chapter also participated in 2 mega exhibitions at the Chennai Trade Centre. Both exhibitions attracted crowds of around 50,000 to 60,000 visitors each spanning 5 days. Pamphlets were distributed. It was a fulfilling adventure for all at MSSI Chennai, for nearly 2 whole weeks!
MSSI Hyderabad Chapter celebrated World MS Day on 29th May 2013 at City Center Mall, Banjara Hills. The Youth MS Group entertained all with the 'Harlem Shake' dance. There was a 'What's your Motto' Competition for the MSPs where the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes were bagged by Seema, Nasheed and Mrunalini respectively. This was followed by Karaoke singing by KJ Anand, where Hema sang a beautiful English song. The evening concluded with the formation of the Human Chain. Subway sponsored the evening. The event was widely covered by Hybiz TV and other electronic media. Local dailies like Indian Express, Deccan Chronicle and Eenadu also gave positive coverage.
A “Free Melodious Music Clinic” was held on Sunday 12th at the Ravindra Natya Mandir. It was packed with 1000 people. Dr. Rahul Joshi, a professional singer enthralled the audience for 3 hours. We were happy to have 25-30 MSPS attending with their families. The presence of the famous playback singer Vaishali Samant, which led to dancing and singing. Mrs. Chitnis gave a brief power point presentation in Hindi on MS & MSSI work. The received great support from their sponsors – Biogen Idec, Merck, Videocon, Janmabhoomi, Medusind Solutions, Rotary Club of Bay View and Hariman Laboratories.Prior to the event local newspapers Loksatta & Janmabhumi carried prominent articles about MS & MSSI.
MSSI in collaboration with Bandra Cycle Club (BCC) organized a Cycle rally. The cyclists were flagged off at 6.30 am, from Lucky Restaurant, Bandra. The founder of BCC, Vishal Sharma welcomed all the participants and informed about the significance of the rally held for MS Cause. MSSI Cause Ambassador Milind Soman & Raghu from MTV show Roadies, bicycled along with 60 cyclists from BCC. It was an eye-catching sight to see collective participants wearing orange MSSI T-shirts.
An evening was held on the 10th, inviting young MSPs & families at a Special Garden for disabled at Wadala. Praneel the Youth leader of Mumbai coordinated with the youth & encouraged all of them to participate & share their experiences. Milind Soman talked with the youth on a one to one basis stressing the importance of fitness in daily living. The evening ended with the formation of Human Chain, showing great solidarity.
MSSI Mumbai Chapter also held a variety of talks, seminars and awareness days, educating and highlighting the important work the MSSI does for our MSPs.
MS Society of India Delhi Chapter and AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences) continued their Annual medical panel discussion. 85-90 people attended this event.
Delhi Members encouraged MS patients’ family and friends to attend and put their questions to the panel at AIIMS. Information on the latest treatments for MS were exchanged and all patient queries were handled by the most experienced senior Doctors of AIIMS. In keeping with the theme of “Youth & MS”, a number of related topics were discussed. Questions & doubts clarified by the Panel’ This event brought the focus on multiple sclerosis, its psycho-social impact on the individual & families, and the benefits from the latest advances in medicine & rehabilitation.
2 ) On the 29th May, World MS Day 2013, MSSI Delhi gathered at Select City Walk Mall Saket with the aim of encouraging our own MSPs and all participants & visitors to share their inspirational mottos for overcoming the challenges that we all face, and make the most of what life brings. The World MS Day campaign was successful in raising awareness of three basic key messages about MS in order to improve public knowledge and awareness of the disease. There was music and dance that immediately drew the crowds & provided an opportunity to share an encouraging motto with the world! The lively programme included.-A performance by the upcoming Delhi rock band: “Flying Pink Hippos” & A Spirited dance performance by youngsters from the “Salaam Balak Trust” a non- profit organization.
MSSI Pune Chapter held an Awareness Event at BNY Mellon, Tower 6, Magarpatta City, to commemorate World MS Day 0n 31th May 2013 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
The program started with the formation of a Human Chain of 130-150 people, with the chorus of ‘Yes We Care’. MSSI gave participants MSSI Pune badges and Placards.
BNY Mellon arranged wheelchair for conveyance of MS patients. After the Human Chain formation, Motivational song “Hum honge kamyab...ek din” performing by children.
They then gathered in BNY Mellon town hall. Information relating to MS was provided to the audience, followed by a dance performed by children.
MSSI Pune chapter had arranged lunch treat for all Youth patient as this years theme related to the Youth. Treats were organized at the restaurant THAT BAAT Kothrud on 24th May 2013 at 11:30 AM. Good food and counseling were provided to all those that attended.
MSSI Indore chapter organized a major Musical Event – ‘NAYE PURANE , GEET SUHANE’ on 25th May 2013 at Mai Mangeshkar Auditorium, a well known place in Indore, to raise publicity for MSSI .It was packed with 500 people. Mrs. Swarna Mategaonkar a professional and well known singer of Pune enthralled the audience for 3-4 hours with her sweet and wonderful voice.
The program started with the lighting of the ceremonies lamp by The Chief Guest, Shri. L. K. Tolani, Director of Pragya Engineering. Thereafter, the program commenced with a rendition to Almighty. The Office Holders welcomed the Chief Guest and the Guest Singer with her Musical Group. The Auditorium was decorated with banners, flex and lights with our MSSI and WMSD logo.
A highlight of the program was the presence of more famous singers, Sachin Dave and Mona Shevde. Their performance was also tremendous and heart touching. In between the program, Mr. Tambe educated the gathering by giving a brief presentation about the MS and MS Society. Around 20-25 MSPS with their families attended.Mr. Dilip Mestry, Director of Bhagwan Motors Pvt. Ltd. Applauded the good work of MSSI – Indore and gave away tokens of appreciation to the singers & the musicians.
