The best way to spread the Spirit of Diwali is through music. MSSI Chennai held a Music Fest, ‘Sing Loud for All to Hear’ on 29 October 2022. The program started with Mr Stanley & his band, and later singers Miss Thanishka, Miss Thitiksha and Miss Jyothikalai joined in and gave us the best of their singing talent. It was a soulful music fest for all members. The month of October is usually observed by the chapter as the month of Caregiver. Caregiver Awards were given to three categories (Father, Sister & Wife) and certificates were distributed to the members who had completed the ‘Fatigue Management Program’. 50 members and caretakers participated in the program. Birthday celebrations of our members were also held, followed by high tea. In the end, a box of sweets was given to all the members as a takeaway gift.
The annual physiotherapy camp of the Pune Chapter was held on 16 October 2022 at Jayantrao and Indutai Tilak College of Physiotherapy, Gultekdi, Pune. BNY Mellon employees volunteered for the camp and assisted PwMS. About 100 people including PwMS, caregivers, volunteers and physiotherapy students attended the camp. Dr. Rasika, Professor of Physiotherapy at the college introduced Dr. Bhalerao, Neuro Physiotherapist and Asha Merchant, Hon. Secretary. Asha Merchant spoke briefly about the Pune highlighting the activities and services MSSI provides to persons with MS. Dr. Bhalerao talked about MS and cleared some myths. According to him, every problem has a solution and he totally changed the perspective of MS persons about MS. Prof. Rasika concluded the programme with a vote of thanks and presentation of a token gift to Dr. Bhalerao. After the talk, PwMS were helped by college students with various exercises performed with the help of therapy equipment. They emphasised the importance and benefits of physiotherapy and how important is its role in MS. Dr. Bhalerao made a surprise announcement to offer free physiotherapy treatment of any kind to all PwMS who are registered with MSSI Pune Chapter.
On 7 October 2022, MSSI Mumbai Chapter organised an MS Awareness Program at MMK College, Bandra for young college students. More than 70 students attended the session. Mrs Sheela Chitnis, Co-Founder, MSSI & Hon. Chairperson, MSSI Mumbai spoke on Multiple Sclerosis & the Inception of MSSI. She also briefly highlighted the projects undertaken & services offered by MSSI. Mr Sandeep Chitnis, Hon. National Secretary, MSSI spoke on Advocacy, Rehabilitation & Need for Volunteers at MSSI. Akshata Patil, PwMS spoke about her experience with MS and how early diagnosis is important in its treatment.
The Annual Picnic 2022 took place on 2nd October 2022, Sunday at Joe’s Beach Resort, Mahabalipuram. 138 PwMS, caregivers & volunteers joined for the day. The bus ride for the members from the office to the venue point was enjoyable along the scenic beaches that stretched along the road. The program started with a welcome note by Mrs. Ann Gonsalvez, Hon. Secretary & some refreshing beverages. BNY Mellon volunteers conducted fun games for kids & adults. A sumptuous lunch was served which consisted of different vegetarian and non-vegetarian items. After lunch, everyone gathered near the beach and played various games, for which many prizes were handed out. This was followed by high tea. The ended with members and caretakers enjoying the beach with the help of volunteers.
