Details: We are delighted to share insights from our recent seminar titled “Transforming Accessibility: Building an Inclusive Environment for Persons with Disabilities (PWD) in India – From ‘Affective’ to ‘Effective'” (Part 2), held on 12th March 2024. This seminar was the second installment in this theme, following the successful inaugural event on 8th November 2023.

Our seminar included members from the Multiple Sclerosis Society of India (MSSI), the University of Delhi, Vivekananda College, The Earth Home, and the O.P Jindal Global University (JGU) community. Hosted by the Centre for the Study of the United Nations at JGU, the event witnessed the participation of 55 individuals in person and 15 attendees online.

The seminar highlighted findings indicating that micro-aggressions stem not from traditional factors like corruption or inefficiencies, but rather from design defects in stakeholder interactions. Leveraging the RPWD Act (2016), we discussed strategies to minimize these design flaws and construct a built environment accessible to all, including PWDs.

Our overarching goal is to shift the discourse on PWDs from philanthropy-centric to economic development-focused. By fostering collaboration among government, academia, and civil society, we aim to develop actionable strategies aligned with the RPWD Act, paving the way for the economic development and societal inclusion of PWDs in India.

Note: This seminar marks the second installment in our series, with the first seminar held on 8th November 2023, featuring speakers Gp Capt. Prabal Malaker (Retd), Hon. Secretary, Multiple Sclerosis Society of India (MSSI), Delhi Chapter, and Mr. Subhash Chandra Vashishth, Director, Centre for Accessibility in Built Environment (CABE) Foundation.
