Face to Face Programme

MSSI – Chennai Chapter monthly meeting “Face to Face” Programme on 29-09-2018 started with the Meditation session by Dr. R.J. Kalpana on behalf of the “Institute of Heartfulness”.  Dr Kalpana, an erudite and perceptive writer and critic who received her PhD from the University of Mumbai. Professionally she is a consultant for Knowledge Management.  She also served on the Editorial Board for the Encyclopedia of Hinduism. It is a 30 minute follow up session as per the plan made on August 11th meeting. Our MS Person and their caregiver enjoyed and felt relaxed at the end of the meditation session which in turn helped them to stay active for the next session. Dr. Visalam, MD., FM (Functional Medicine) USA runs an alternative medicine clinic named Orange Ray, Nungambakkam and also Chief Medical Manager at Star Health Insurance. There were around 40 MS Persons along with caregivers, got benefited from her session. Dr. Visalam herself is an MS Person and so her connectivity worked with our MS Person. She shared her experience on MS and how she has handled life all these years from age 12 to 27 years. Her talk was highly motivating and inspiring to our MS Person. She highlighted the importance of Diet, Nutrition and MS. She also gave a few tips on Do’s and Don’t’s in their regular diet from her Trial and Error experience. MS Persons and Caregivers were very attentive and participated actively by interacting with the resource person.

The evening came to a happy ending with MS person, Mr. Ashokan and Mrs. Prema Srinivasan cutting a birthday cake to the joyous singing of Happy Birthday by all the 40 MS persons and their caregivers.

Delicious snacks and tea brought the meeting to a close.

Awareness Program in Presidency College

The awareness program started with the welcome address by Mr. Sangam, President Rotaract followed by a presentation on MS by Dr. Shashikanth, a yoga therapist. Presentation comprised of the description of MS, causes, symptoms, types and management of the same. The doctor also mentioned the activities done by MSSI, Bangalore Chapter. Then the student Rotaract coordinator gave an introduction about the guest speaker, Mrs. Geetha Balaji. Mrs. Balaji shared her personal experience about MS and captured all the audience’s mind and soul through her motivational speech. After that, the floor was open for question and answer session by students which were cleared by Dr. Shashikanth. Then the Rotaract coordinators felicitated the volunteers of MSSI and delivered the vote of thanks. The meeting winded up by a group photo, followed by refreshments.

Cochin and Trivandrum Activities

Satspandana Physiotherapy Centre along with Trivandrum Support Group conducted a Physiotherapy Session at Trivandrum on 05/08/2018. The same was conducted at Kochi Support Group on 20/09/2018.  The director of Satspandana Physiotherapy Centre, Mr. Sanjith gave details as regards necessary physical work out for MS persons. He demonstrated aerobics, simple stretching, muscle relaxation techniques. He also showed MS patients how to lie down and do the simple exercises and stretching for those who could not sit or stand properly. Breathing exercises were also covered in this session. The session was attended by MS persons along with their family members. An amount of Rs.12,000/- was collected by Trivandrum Support Group and handed over to MS person Vishnu Maheswari who was affected by the flood in Kerala.

Mera Sapna – MSSI Mumbai

MSSI Mumbai visits Yashraj Studios on the sets of India’s one of the most popular singing reality show INDIAN IDOL.

MERA SAPNA Project aims at fulfilling the small Dreams of our MS friends, which the overburdened caregiver may not be able to accomplish.

On Tuesday 18th Sept,  MSSI Mumbai visited the sets of singing reality show INDIAN IDOL Season 10.

It was an ardent wish of few of our MS friends to meet the eminent judges of today’s most popular singing reality show INDIAN IDOL which is being telecasted on Sony Entertainment Channel.

We were very fortunate that Vishal Dadlani; Music composer, playback singer, music record producer, lyricist, and performer, invited us on the sets of Indian Idol. We also met today’s young sensational Playback Singer- Neha Kakkar.

It was a good interaction with the Celebrities & later we were asked to join as an audience in the show. All MSPs were very thrilled as it was a dream come true for all of US.

We are very thankful to Vishal Dadlani for always supporting our cause.

Fundraiser – MSSI Hyderabad

MSSI Hyderabad organised a fundraiser on 9th September 2018. It was a Sufi dance concert by the world-renowned danseuse,  Manjari Chaturvedi, titled The Courtesan – An Enigma.  Actress, Nisha Singh narrated episodes and stories from the lives of well-known courtesans.

There was a gathering of about 400 people including high ranked Government officials, writers, poets, publishers, media person, our members, guests, doctors and our PwMS. An opportunity was given to PwMS Deepthi to put up a stall of her artwork near the reception which did fairly well.

The programme was highly appreciated and received excellent reviews in magazines and daily newspapers. Awareness was also made by putting up hoardings and posters at prime locations in the city. Event listing was done 15 days ahead of the programme in the newspapers –  The Times of India, Deccan Chronicle and via curtain raiser by Ratna Rao, in the Wow magazine.

Hyderabad  Chapter is thankful to all those who willingly supported the cause and our esteemed sponsors.

WALKATHON – MSSI Pune

To celebrate World Physiotherapy Day, a Walkathon was organised by Sancheti Hospital Pune on Sunday 9th September 2018.  MSSI Pune had actively participated in the Walkathon to create an awareness on MS and the Role of Physiotherapist in providing relief to the MSPs.

The participants included Four Committee members, two staff members, five volunteers and two MSPs. There were in all 13 persons who took part in the event.

There was a spot event conducted by the organisers. People were asked to come on the stage to do the Plank Exercise. Firoz Khoja, our staff member also participated in this event.

The Walkathon had 3 categories of events (a) 5 KM Walk (b) 3 KM Walk (c) 1 KM Walk. The two of our volunteers went for 5 KM event, the majority of us walked 3 KM. One MSP did 3 KM and one MSP did 1 KM Walk.

All of us were wearing MSSI Cap which was very much appreciated by the organiser.

The Walkathon started on time as scheduled from Sancheti Hospital and proceeded towards Jangli Maharaj Road and returned to the starting point after completing the planned distance.

Later Sancheti Hospital provided refreshment to all participants. Free icepacks were distributed to the needy persons. We exchanged views with other participants and distributed our Brochures to familiarise them with the activities and the role of MSSI Pune Chapter.

The Program ended at 8.15 am.
