As part of the World MS Day observance, the Multiple Sclerosis Society of India (MSSI), Chennai Chapter, in collaboration with five Indian Medical Association (IMA) chapters, hosted a Continuing Medical Education (CME) session titled “Navigating MS Together” at Ambassador Pallava, Egmore. The session focused on the critical importance of early diagnosis and proactive management of Multiple Sclerosis (MS).

The program commenced with a warm welcome from Mrs. Archana, an MSSI Chennai Committee Member. This was followed by a detailed overview of MSSI’s mission and initiatives by Mrs. Ann Gonsalves, Hon. Secretary of the Chennai Chapter. She highlighted the organisation’s multifaceted role in supporting people with MS and their caregivers – not only through medical and financial assistance but also by offering emotional and social support.

Dr. Venkatraman Karthikeyan, Neurologist at Kauvery Hospital, Chennai, addressed the gathering with an insightful presentation, emphasising the need for early detection and medical intervention in MS, particularly as the condition primarily affects individuals aged 14 to 40.

A powerful and moving segment featured four MS warriors who shared their personal journeys, underscoring the emotional and clinical challenges arising from delayed diagnoses and the invaluable support they received from MSSI.

An engaging Q&A session followed, during which participating doctors posed pertinent questions to Dr. Karthikeyan, sparking insightful discussions on MS diagnosis and management. The session drew participation from over 60 doctors, reflecting strong interest and commitment to advancing MS care. It significantly enhanced clinical understanding of MS and reinforced the importance of timely diagnosis, accurate treatment, and coordinated care to improve patient outcomes.

The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by Mrs. Dolly Khanna, Founder Treasurer of MSSI Chennai. “Navigating MS Together” marked a meaningful step forward in strengthening the MS care ecosystem. By fostering awareness, encouraging collaboration, and equipping medical professionals with crucial knowledge, the session contributed to a brighter, more supportive future for those living with MS.
