Face-to-Face Meeting – MSSI Chennai

The Multiple Sclerosis Society of India (MSSI) -Chennai Chapter held its monthly face-to-face meeting on Saturday, August 30th, 2025, at 3:00 pm at YWCA of Madras International Guest House, Poonamalle High Road. The session featured guest speaker, Mr. M. Kamraj, a certified Psychotherapist and consultant Psychologist, who shared his expertise on the theme “Discovering Your True Self: A Journey of Self-Exploration.

The meeting commenced with a warm welcome and introduction of the guest speaker by Mrs. Ann Gonsalves, Hon. Secretary, MSSI Chennai Chapter.

The session was highly interactive, creating a safe and supportive environment for participants. Individuals courageously shared their personal journeys with Multiple Sclerosis, opening up about challenges faced, the emotional toll of their diagnosis, and the impact on relationships with family, society, and themselves.

Mr. Kamraj guided participants through an inspiring conversation on self-discovery and emotional resilience. He stressed the significance of self-care and introduced a few practical approaches to cope with stress and enhance well-being, which included:

  • Journaling: A powerful tool to rewire the brain, reduce stress, foster self-reflection, and encourage personal growth.
  • Pampering the five senses: Finding joy in everyday pleasures such as savouring favourite foods, listening to music, travelling, painting, any art form, or simply watching a good movie.
  • Upskilling and hobbies: Embracing new skills and interests to build inner strength, resilience, and confidence in facing life’s challenges.

The discussion was not only therapeutic but also deeply community-driven. Participants found encouragement in knowing they were not alone and expressed gratitude for the chance to connect with others who truly understand their experiences. The session left many feeling uplifted, motivated, and more confident in their journey with MS.

The meeting concluded with a warm Vote of Thanks delivered by Mrs. Sujatha Karthik, PwMS. As a gesture of appreciation, Ms. Divya, PwMS, presented a gift to the guest speaker.

High Tea marked the close of the meeting, creating a relaxed space for members to bond, exchange experiences, and support one another. With the participation of around 45 MS patients and caregivers, the session was widely appreciated for being insightful, supportive, and empowering.
