On the occasion of World MS Day, the Multiple Sclerosis Society of India (MSSI) – Hyderabad Chapter brought together voices of strength, science and solidarity at City Centre Mall for a powerful public awareness event. The gathering was not just about information, it was about connection, recognition and truly understanding life with Multiple Sclerosis (MS).
Insightful Beginnings: Understanding Stress and MS
The event opened with an enlightening session by Dr. Surya Prabha, Head of Neurology at Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences.
Her talk on “Managing Stress and its Direct and Indirect Impact on MS” resonated deeply with the audience. She broke down complex medical concepts into clear, practical takeaways, highlighting how stress can influence MS symptoms and progression and how mindful management can improve quality of life.
Her session struck a balance between clinical expertise and everyday relevance, leaving attendees better informed and empowered.
Celebrating Strength and Achievement
A key highlight of the day was the recognition of resilience and excellence within the MS community.
Achievement Awards were presented to distinguished children of persons with MS, acknowledging not just academic or personal success, but the strength and empathy they embody.
Special recognition was also given to individuals making a difference:
Sushma G – Honoured for her relentless advocacy efforts, particularly in facilitating UDID (Unique Disability ID) Cards for persons with MS.
Dimple K – Awarded 2nd Prize for her engaging and heartfelt reel portraying life with MS.
Arti Vishal Mital – Recognised for receiving her second international award for spreading awareness on MS.
These stories served as powerful reminders that living with MS does not limit impact; it often amplifies purpose.
Stories that Move: Film & Music
The event also featured a moving short film on Multiple Sclerosis by Farida Raj, which built empathy and deepened understanding among viewers.
Complementing the emotional tone, a live music performance by Kunal and team created a warm, uplifting atmosphere, bringing moments of joy and togetherness to the gathering.
Building Connections: Community at the Core
One of the most meaningful aspects of the event was the space it created for open dialogue.
People with MS, caregivers, doctors and even casual mall visitors engaged in conversations, sharing stories, asking questions and learning from one another. These interactions transformed awareness into understanding and understanding into empathy.
Walking in Their Shoes: Experiencing MS
An especially impactful initiative was Roche’s WalkInMyShoes experience.
This simulation allowed caregivers and members of the public to physically experience some of the challenges faced by people living with MS. For many, it was a moment of realisation, offering a glimpse into the invisible struggles of the condition.
Symbols of Solidarity: MS Heart & Human Chain
The MS Heart Photo Corner became a vibrant hub of connection, where attendees, including doctors, joined persons with MS for memorable photographs, symbolising unity and support.
This spirit of togetherness culminated in a human chain, where participants stood hand in hand, sending a strong, visible message of solidarity in the fight against MS.
A Meaningful Close
The event concluded on a warm note with refreshments that brought everyone together in informal celebration. More importantly, it left behind a renewed commitment to awareness, inclusion and sustained support for those living with MS.
Moving Forward
World MS Day at Hyderabad was not just an event; it was a reminder. A reminder that awareness must lead to action, that empathy must lead to inclusion and that every conversation brings us closer to a world where people with MS are fully understood and supported.
As the community continues its journey, one thing is clear:
Together, we are stronger than MS.
