Advancing Multiple Sclerosis (MS) care requires more than clinical expertise – it demands an understanding of the lived experiences of those affected by the condition. With this objective, the Multiple Sclerosis Society of India (MSSI), Chennai Chapter, in collaboration with the Indian Medical Association (IMA), Ambattur Avadi Branch, organised a Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme on 25th June 2026 at JP Hotel, Koyambedu, Chennai.

The programme featured an expert session by Dr. Venkatraman Karthikeyan, Consultant Neurologist at Kauvery Hospital, Chennai, on Current Trends in Multiple Sclerosis Management. His engaging presentation highlighted advances in disease-modifying therapies, evolving diagnostic tools and treatment strategies, the importance of early diagnosis, and the value of multidisciplinary care in improving long-term outcomes for people living with MS.
A defining feature of the CME was the interactive panel discussion, Living with MS – Patient and Caregivers’ Perspective. Three persons with Multiple Sclerosis (PwMS) shared their journeys from the onset of symptoms and initial diagnosis to treatment decisions, medications, current health status, and the realities of daily life. The open dialogues provided healthcare professionals with valuable insights into the physical, emotional, and social impact of MS, reinforcing the importance of compassionate, patient-centred care.
The CME brought together around 45–50 participants, including neurologists, physicians, general practitioners, PwMS, caregivers, and MSSI representatives, creating a valuable forum for knowledge exchange and meaningful interaction. The collaboration between MSSI Chennai Chapter and the IMA Ambattur Avadi Branch strengthened ties between patient advocacy and the medical fraternity, highlighting the importance of working together to improve awareness, promote evidence-based practice, and advance holistic, patient-centred care for people living with Multiple Sclerosis.
