The Multiple Sclerosis Society of India (MSSI) – Chennai Chapter, in collaboration with the VisionSpring Foundation, organised a Free Eye Examination and Quality Eyeglasses Programme for Persons with Multiple Sclerosis (PwMS) on 26th September 2026 at the YWCA International Guest House, Chennai.
The initiative aimed to support the visual health and everyday well-being of PwMS through accessible eye examinations and quality corrective eyewear. Around 70 participants, including PwMS and caregivers, attended the programme.
To ensure smooth coordination and personalised attention, participants were organised into two batches – a morning session and an evening session. A dedicated team from the VisionSpring Foundation conducted comprehensive eye examinations and assessed the vision requirements of the participants. Those requiring corrective eyewear were assessed for suitable prescriptions, and quality prescription eyeglasses were to be provided to support better visual clarity and comfort in daily activities.
The programme was supported by 13 BNY Mellon volunteers, who assisted participants throughout both sessions and contributed significantly to the smooth conduct of the programme.
Lunch was provided for the morning session, while High Tea was provided for the evening session. The gathering also offered PwMS and caregivers an opportunity to interact and spend time together in a warm and supportive environment.
The initiative contributed to promoting better vision, greater independence and improved quality of life for persons living with Multiple Sclerosis.
