Knowledge empowers, movement transforms, and together they pave the way for healthier living with Multiple Sclerosis. Reinforcing the vital role of physiotherapy in enhancing mobility, independence, and overall well-being, the MSSI Chennai Chapter, in collaboration with the Tamil Nadu Indian Association of Physiotherapists Women Cell (TNIAPWC) – Chennai Central, organised an Awareness & Educational Program on “Physiotherapy Management in Multiple Sclerosis” on 25th July 2026 at YWCA, Egmore, Chennai. Held under the theme “Healthy Aging with MS: Physio Edition,” the programme brought together nearly 55 participants, including Persons with Multiple Sclerosis (PwMS), caregivers, healthcare professionals, and dedicated volunteers from BNY.

The programme commenced with a warm welcome address by Mrs. Archana Ganesan, who greeted the audience and distinguished guests. The guest physiotherapists were felicitated with shawls by Persons with MS, reflecting the Chapter’s appreciation for their invaluable contribution to MS care.

The educational sessions featured Dr. Sugasri Sureshkumar (PT), who shared strategies for energy conservation to manage fatigue; Dr. Maria Sophia McConnell (PT), who highlighted the role of pelvic floor rehabilitation in addressing urinary incontinence; and Dr. Al Fathima (PT), who conducted a live demonstration of breathing exercises to improve respiratory health and promote relaxation.

A proud moment for the Chapter was the announcement that Ms. Smitha Sadasivan had been selected by MSSI National to attend the MS International Federation (MSIF) Annual General Meeting in London in October 2026, recognising her commitment to the MS community.

The programme concluded with an engaging interactive session, where PwMS actively sought expert guidance and had their questions addressed by the speakers. Mrs. Archana Ganesan proposed the vote of thanks, after which participants came together for a group photograph and high tea, bringing to a close an enriching session of learning, interaction, and fellowship.
