About Chennai Chapter

Multiple Sclerosis Society of India – Chennai Chapter was established in 1997 with Mr. N. Ram, Editor in Chief “The Hindu” as Founder Chairperson, with just 10 MSP’s and many volunteers to add to its strength. Initiated by Mrs.Devi Bala, the Society had as its Founder Secretary, Mrs.Dolly Khanna, Founder Treasurer, Mrs.Ann Gonsalvez, and the Founder Vice Chairperson, Mrs. Lakshmi Subramanian.  Today, the society serves more than 400 MS persons, across the States of Tamil Nadu and Kerala, with a Support Group at Puducherry.

Activities

  • Identification of MS persons and initial help, like Doctor’s appointments, etc
  • Lab tests, MRI’s, Injections and Medicine free/subsidised.
  • Neuro Physiotherapy & Speech therapy free/subsidised.
  • Help to obtain Disability Certificates, UDID Card, pension & Insurance for MS persons
  • Visiting home-bound/hospitalised Multiple Sclerosis Persons.
  • Regular telephonic counselling services and counselling at home.
  • Alternative medicines like Homoeopathy, etc.
  • Livelihood Rehabilitation.
  • Advocacy and Awareness Campaigns.
  • Fundraising.
  • Financial Aid for reimbursement of medical help and supply of mobility aids and incontinence products to MS Persons.
  • Regular monthly meetings and get-togethers for Multiple Sclerosis Persons.
  • Fatigue Management Program is a six-week (weekly once) session that supports people with MS in managing physical and emotional fatigue, led by a neurologist and a psychotherapist.
  • Every Thursday Brain Lab session is being conducted via Zoom Meet @ 12 pm – 1.00 pm by Dr. Ravi Samuel (Psychotherapist) to provide specialised cognitive rehabilitation treatment.
  • Providing internships for the psychology and social work students, as well as occupational therapy students from the esteemed college,s which will provide them with learning in their appropriate field by applying in a practical & theoretical approach.
