MSSI at Goodseeds Mela

By | Hyderabad | No Comments

To create awareness for MS & MSSI at the First Sunday Organic Earth Mela by Goodseeds at Saptaparni, Banjara Hills, Hyderabad.

Goodseeds is a platform to promote healthy, holistic, and sustainable living ideas. It was founded by Mr. Narayan Murthy in 2012. He has extended his support to the Hyderabad Chapter of MSSI by giving a free stall at every mela happening in the city. Young women entrepreneurs and the elite who visited the mela showed great interest in the activities of MSSI.

MSSI Hyderabad participated in the mela in January and March and it was observed that there were many who were still unaware of the existence of such an Institution. Many volunteered to contribute and support the MS cause.

“forms of the formless” – a book launched by MSSI Hyderabad in 2011 was sold at the mela at a discounted price, with the author Ms Amita Talwar personally signing the copies. The proceeds of the sale were generously donated by her to MSSI Hyderabad.

“MSSI added flavour to Goodseeds mela” was a pleasing remark made by Mr. Narayan Murthy. MSSI Hyderabad is grateful to him for the opportunity provided.

Ms. Basa Nagmani, renowned long distance runner and Asian games Gold Medalist, flagged off the walk and was felicitated by our chairperson.

Dr. Rebecca Varghese, a PwMS and an emergency physician was felicitated by our charter chairperson, for her various achievements in beauty pageants.

The participants included most of our PwMS with their friends, caregivers and children, office bearers, life members, guests, TV 1 and TV 9 team, athletes from Ms. Nagamani’s training school and the morning walkers around.

The walk drew publicity with TV channels like TV1 and TV9, newspapers like The Hindu and the local daily Telangana Today covering the programme which helped to bring focus on MS.

The highlight of the programme was two persons with MS who were on their daily morning walk registered with the society and a guest registered as a life member.

Hyderabad chapter thanks Mr. R.K. Nair, MD of Soma Block Prints, Jaipur, for sponsoring this event which was a grand success.

80 Members and guests joined hands to form the Human Chain for World MS Day that included PwMS, their family members, caregivers, guests and life members. The enthusiastic participation (despite the scorching summer heat) by everyone made this event a ‘SUCCESS’.

The event timing was from 5.00 PM till 7.00 PM. However, like all other events, the participants enjoyed themselves and thus it got extended till 7.30 PM (not breaking the tradition).

  5. Niharika Bohra, daughter of PwMS Mrs. Suman Bohra sang the beautiful song “Aashayen”.
  6. Ramadevi, PwMS who is currently confined to a wheelchair displayed the true spirit of ‘Life with MS’ by performing to the song “Nadavinodam” while sitting on a chair. This was the highlight of the evening.
  7. P. Murali Krishna (Guinness record holder) and award winning magician entertained the audience with his magic acts.
