India MS Day Event | Medical Seminar

The Mumbai Chapter and Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital (KDAH) jointly organised a Medical Seminar on ‘Conquering MS Disabilities’ on 18 February 2023. After the presentations, an Interactive Q&A session was conducted where the panellists took questions from the audience. Around 110 persons including PwMS, Caregivers, Doctors, Therapists and others attended the program.

The panellists for the event included:

  2. Dr Niren Dongre, Retinal Surgeon, Dept. of Ophthalmology, KDAH

  4. Dr Darshpreet Kaur, Chief Physiotherapist, Bihar Neuro Diagnostic Centre, Patna
  5. Dr Abhishek Srivastava, Director, Center for Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital
  6. Dr Mohit Bhatt, Director- Neurosciences, KDAH

Awareness Programme at MSSW COLLEGE

On 17 February 2023, the Chennai Chapter organised an Awareness Programme at MSSW College. Mrs Ann Gonsalvez, Secretary of MSSI, Chennai Chapter, took a session on Multiple Sclerosis. The session was held to create awareness about the rare disease among the students of the Master of Social Work (Disability and Empowerment) Department from the Madras School of Social Work. The awareness session was a part of the community organisation programme conducted by the Postgraduate Social Work Students from Madras School of Social Work.

Breakfast Talk on Multiple Sclerosis

Extentia Information Technology, Pune, as a part of their Breakfast Talk series, organised an awareness session on Invisible Multiple Sclerosis with Anjali Vyas, PwMS MSSI Pune Chapter on 9 February 2023. About 80 people both online & offline attended this session.

Anjali shared her experience of living with MS and presented information on symptoms, statistics, challenges & the impact of MS on the Employment of PwMS. She also shared the findings of the survey by MSIF & the baseline study she conducted during her fellowship on factors affecting the employment of PwMS. During her presentation she also asked questions, busting the myths around MS which made the entire session very interactive. She concluded her talk by sharing examples of Reasonable Accommodation for PwMS at the workplace. The attendees found the talk very insightful & interesting.

India MS Day Event | Meet and Greet with MSIF Delegates

On 6 February 2023, the chapter hosted a meet and greet with MSIF delegates from London. Ms Annthadine Oyefeso, Organizational Development and Movement Building Manager and Ms Lili White, Communications & Campaigns Officer spoke with the Managing Committee Members, MSSI team and members who had attended MSIF workshops to discuss MSSI’s projects and services.

This was followed by an interactive luncheon meeting at the Dadar Club with 7 Managing Committee members, 5 Neurologists, MSIF Delegates, PwMS & MSSI staff. Prof. Dr Sarosh Katrak, Emeritus Director Jaslok Hospital, Dr Neeta Mehta, Former Prof. & HOD, Neurology of Sir J. J. Hospital, Prof. Dr Sangeeta Rawat Dean of KEM Hospital, Prof. Neeraj Jain of KEM Hospital & Dr Sachin Vaidya of Godrej Hospital also joined us for the luncheon.

India MS Day Celebrations Chennai

The India MS Day 2023 was held on 5 February 2023 at Anna Nagar Tower Park. Around 200 PwMS, caregivers & volunteers participated. The program started with a musical feast ‘Aagasam’ by the Vaazhvi team. It was a very enjoyable and refreshing evening for all. As the music played, members, PwMS, caregivers, volunteers and the general public gathered as a human chain.

The Chief Guest of the program was Mr. Gagandeep Singh Bedi, IAS, Commissioner, Greater Chennai Corporation and the Guest of Honors were Mr. K P Jain, Chairman, Zone 8, Greater Chennai Corporation, Mr. MK Mohan, MLA, Anna Nagar Constituency, and Mrs. Pushpalatha, Councilor, Ward 103, Greater Chennai Corporation.

We were delighted to have them at the event. The members and PwMS clicked pictures in kiosks and selfie booths. It was followed by high tea & the celebration came to a close with the beat of song & music by the Vaazhvi team.

India MS Day Celebrations Bengaluru

India MS Day celebration held by MSSI, Bengaluru Chapter was a grand event. The main supporters behind the success of this event were Rotary Bengaluru Orion Gateway, Rotary RAGAMS, Rotary Rajmahal Vilas, Rotary Abilities, Bosch & Omega Healthcare. MSSI Bengaluru Chapter is grateful to the entire team for their support towards a noble cause. We were able to create awareness for more than 400 people who had gathered for the event.

On 5 February 2023, the Delhi Chapter held a wonderful picnic at the Sunder Nursery Park near Humayun’s Tomb, Delhi. It was a wonderful, sunny day with lots of fun with all the PwMS, caregivers and volunteers.

India MS Day Celebrations | Ceremonial Walk

MSSI Hyderabad Chapter celebrated India MS Day 2023 by organising an MS Walk in Mahila Samajam Park, Srinagar Colony on 5 February 2023. This was very well attended by the PwMS, Caregivers, volunteers, and guests; more than 70 people participated in the event. The Walk was flagged off by Chief Guest Dr Rishi Swarup, Ophthalmologist. He is the Director of Swarup Eye Centre. The walk ended with lots of bonhomie and a sumptuous breakfast was served to all the participants. There were a lot of enquiries by the morning walkers and passersby who stopped to pick up leaflets wanting to know more about MS hence, helping us create awareness. There were 6 students from Kamineni Hospital, training under Dr Annie Hasan, a well-known Geneticist. Dr Hasan and members from the Inner Wheel Club of Secunderabad also joined us for the walk to support the cause.

    • Brief note on MSSI’s various patient care services & projects for better advocacy for PwMS
    • Highlighted the benefits of registering with MSSI
  • Dr Sarosh Katrak, Emeritus Director, Dept. of Neurology, Jaslok Hospital & Research Centre
    • He spoke about MS & its limited treatment in the early years in India
  • Dr Satish Khadilkar, Dean & Head, Dept. of Neurology, Bombay
    • Talked about new treatments and drugs available for MS
  • Ms Annthadine Oyefeso, Organizational Development and Movement Building Manager, MSIF, London
  • Ms Lili White, Communications & Campaigns Officer, MSIF, London

This programme helped create awareness amongst the general public in attendance. It was also a successful way for PwMS, caregivers and MSSI members and staff to interact with the doctors.
